What is a Challenge Course?
A Challenge Course is a program designed to allow individuals to participate and experience activities that cause them to reflect and learn about their relationship to others and to learn about their own abilities and limitations. The Challenge Course program is based on an experiential education model of educating. Experiential Education is just as it sounds- "learning by doing". The Challenge Course participants learn by personally challenging themselves to go beyond perceived boundaries, to think in new ways, and to work with others to solve problems.
The Mission
The Challenge Course Mission is to develop personal and organizational growth through participation in recreational and educational activities that focus on experiencing the characteristics that improve individual and group confidence. Our primary goal is to have every participant leave with the sense of accomplishment and education about their own abilities. Their recognition of these abilities comes through ensuring that the participants challenge themselves in every aspect of the program.
Who can participate in the Challenge Course?
Students, faculty, and staff of TCU are welcome to participate and facilitate the challenge course program. Also in cooperation with the Office of Extended Education, the TCU Challenge Course offers custom designed program opportunities for corporate and non-profit clients. The program is very interactive and very adaptable. Any limitation can be overcome by the course design, as well as, an individual’s desire to challenge themselves with the program.

What is the difference between low and high elements?
Low course elements focus on problem solving, teamwork, communication skills, leadership and trust. These elements vary from ground level to being fourteen feet off the ground. They focus more on group dynamics and activities. The high course elements can be intimidating at first glance but have the ability to develop support and encouragement from all members of your group and develop confidence within individuals. The high elements allow you to stay within your ability and comfort levels, while challenging them to perform at your highest level. By participating in these activities, you can build confidence and strength to take on your everyday challenges and conquer them.
